Around your grain mill

What is the difference between the steel cone mill and a stone mill?
With a steel cone mill, smaller quantities of oily seeds can be processed in addition to dry grain. For example, spice mixtures can be produced. It is not possible to process oilseeds with a stone mill. However, various types of grain can be processed into particularly fine and flaky flour. Which grinder is best for you depends on what you want to process with it.

Grain mill with steel cone grinder:

What foods can I grind with the steel cone grinder?
Grains: Wheat, spelt, green spelt, rye, barley, buckwheat, millet, rice, oats. All dried spices, herbs and mushrooms. Oilseeds: Flaxseed, sesame, soy.

What do I have to bear in mind when grinding oilseeds?
Never grind oilseeds on the finest setting, as this could cause the grinder to stick. After grinding oil-bearing seeds, we recommend grinding dry grain afterwards.

How do I set the grinding degree?
The grinding degree is always set during the grinding process starting with the setting unit 7. You start with the setting on coarse and also set the grinding degree back to "coarse" after use.

  • Finer: counterclockwise and ONLY during the grinding process
  • Coarser: turn clockwise, also works at standstill

How can I clean the grain mill?
Remove the grain mill attachment from the drive unit and remove the feed hopper. Unscrew the locking ring counterclockwise. Now you can remove the adjustment unit, the steel cone grinder and the auger. Clean the grinding mechanism and the adjustment unit with a brush. The plastic parts can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher, except for the adjustment unit. After complete drying, assemble the grain mill in reverse order.

Grain mill with stone grinder:

What foods can I grind with the stone grinder?
Dry, husk-free grain such as buckwheat, spelt, emmer (two-grain), barley, green spelt, oats, millet, rice, rye, wheat, etc.
Attention: The stone grinder can NOT be used to grind seeds containing oil! Grinding corn, spice seeds, poppy seeds and linseeds will destroy the grinder.

What do I have to observe during grinding?
Only allow the grain mill attachment to run for a short time without the material to be ground being filled in. Longer idle running leads to increased wear. Do not use moist grain, as this will clog the grinding mechanism.

How do I set the degree of grinding?
You can set the desired grinding degree with the scale knob when the attachment is empty. Setting a fine grind should only be done in small steps and by briefly switching on the drive several times.

  • Finer: clockwise and only under repeated, short switching on
  • Coarser: counterclockwise, also possible at standstill

How can I clean the grain mill?
Remove the grain mill attachment from the drive unit and remove the feed hopper. Hold the grinding cone and turn the scale knob counterclockwise until the scale knob with grinding cone can be pulled off the hexagonal shaft. Clean the plastic parts with lukewarm water and detergent only (not dishwasher safe!). You can clean the grinder inside and outside with a dry, hard brush or a brush.

How often should I clean the attachment?
The grinder does not need to be cleaned after each use. When used as intended, it cleans itself through the grinding process. After some time or if the mill has not been used for a longer period of time, a thorough cleaning is advisable.
